DStv Ends PSL Title Sponsorship: League Seeks New Partner

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) is searching for a new title sponsor after DStv announced it would not renew its existing deal. The league is in talks with potential sponsors, with Betway emerging as a likely candidate. The Premier Soccer League (PSL) faces a significant transition as DStv has decided to end its title sponsorship. This decision was confirmed by an investigative report from SABC Sport, which detailed that DStv’s parent company, Multichoice, is contemplating whether to terminate the partnership immediately or see out the final year of the five-year agreement initiated in 2020.

DStv took over the sponsorship role from ABSA, which had been the league’s primary sponsor for 13 years since 2007. With DStv’s exit, PSL executives are under pressure to secure a new title sponsor promptly. Betway has emerged as a strong candidate to fill the sponsorship void.

The league’s urgency is heightened as the 2024/25 PSL season is set to commence next month. The most recent season concluded with Mamelodi Sundowns clinching the championship for the sixth consecutive time.

The PSL boasts some of the most popular and influential football clubs in Africa, including Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs, and Orlando Pirates. The latter two clubs are particularly notable for their massive fan bases and strong brand presence across the continent.

As the PSL navigates this transition, securing a new title sponsor is critical to maintaining the league’s financial stability and ensuring a smooth start to the upcoming season.
