The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has announced a significant win for local football fans, securing the rights to broadcast 33 live matches from the highly anticipated 2024/2025 English Premier League (EPL) season. This move ensures that South Africans can enjoy top-tier soccer action for free, bringing the excitement of the EPL directly to their homes.

The public broadcaster confirmed the deal on Friday, highlighting that the live matches will be available across various platforms, including television and digital streaming services. Starting from 17 August 2024, the SABC will kick off its coverage with a thrilling clash between Arsenal and Wolverhampton Wanderers. Fans can tune in every Saturday at 15:00 to catch one live Premier League match on SABC’s S3 channel, with additional coverage on www.sabcsport.com and the SABC+ app.

SABC Sport, the dedicated sports channel, will be at the forefront of this broadcasting initiative, with SABC 3 also playing a key role in bringing the action to viewers. The integration of digital platforms aligns with SABC Sport’s commitment to making the world’s most prestigious football league accessible to a broad audience, regardless of location or device.

Each of the 33 live broadcasts will be accompanied by a pre-game studio show, providing viewers with in-depth match previews, team analysis, and the latest updates. Hosted by SABC Sport’s renowned anchors and analysts, these shows will be available on both TV and digital platforms, ensuring fans are well-informed before the action begins.

As part of its “always-on” digital strategy, SABC Sport’s platforms and SABC+ will offer comprehensive coverage of the EPL season, including the latest news, real-time score updates, league standings, and live match commentary. This holistic approach ensures that audiences remain connected to the EPL throughout the season, never missing a moment of the action.

This major acquisition by SABC not only brings world-class football to South Africa but also reinforces the public broadcaster’s commitment to delivering high-quality, accessible sports content to all its viewers.
