Art lovers and collectors, mark your calendars: Roedean School hosts the Roedean Art Fair from 19 to 21 June, which promises to be Johannesburg’s most exciting art event of the winter season.
The school’s annual art fair will bring together established names such as Wilhelm van Rensburg, Arisha Maharaj and Richard ‘Specs’ Ndimande, and feature works from the Artist Proof Studio and The Gallery. In a lovely twist, Roedean students will be showing their work alongside these heavyweights.
“It’s bold. It’s brilliant. And it’s exactly what makes this fair different. It offers students and visitors a unique opportunity to connect with the broader art world by gaining insights into professional art practices and the business of art, while celebrating creative expression in all its forms,” says Lindi Dlamini, Executive Director of Roedean School.
When and where:
- 19 June: 9am to 7pm
- 20 June: 9am to 3pm, plus a gala evening from 6.30pm to 10pm
- 21 June: 9.30am to 1pm
- Venue: Roedean School gym (exhibition)
At Friday night’s gala evening (20 June), Van Rensburg, Maharaj and Ndimande will host a session titled “Introduction to Buying Art” – essential listening whether you’re buying your first piece or an avid collector. Those interested in understanding the value of art in a broader context will gain great insight from this talk.
“We’re not just showing art; we’re teaching students how the art world actually works – the business and the real connections that matter,” explains Dlamini.
“The Roedean Art Fair showcases our commitment to a well-rounded education that emphasises important values like truth, honour, freedom and courtesy. By letting students work alongside professional artists, the school helps them develop into confident leaders who care about making a difference in the community.”
This annual event also highlights Roedean’s role as a leader in creative arts education. The school offers students a continuous learning experience from Grades 0 to 12 that prepares them to succeed in a fast-changing world.
