Former Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) spokesperson and Member of Parliament (MP), Dr Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, has officially resigned from the party, marking the end of his political career.
In an exclusive interview with SABC News on Monday, Ndlozi confirmed his decision, stating, “I am leaving party politics. I believe I have made my contribution in that space. Politics in South Africa is a free activity, and party politics are not the only way to contribute to society.”
His departure comes after months of tension within the party, particularly with EFF leader Julius Malema.
Allegations of a Rift and MK Party Speculation
Ndlozi revealed that he attempted to engage EFF leadership regarding suspicions that he planned to defect to the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP), but he never received a response.
His absence from the EFF’s Elective Conference in December 2024 raised speculation, further fueled by his suspension from the party weeks before the event. He claims the party accused him of knowing about Floyd Shivambu’s departure to the MK Party and working with the new organization led by former President Jacob Zuma.
“I was suspended about six weeks before the conference. It didn’t follow the EFF’s code of conduct, and I was accused of being part of the MK Party’s infiltration strategy,” he stated.
In December, Malema dismissed claims of Ndlozi’s suspension, insisting that he was not a leader of the EFF and therefore had no place at the elective conference.
Ndlozi Denies MKP Allegiances
Despite the accusations, Ndlozi has categorically denied ever planning to join the MK Party, saying:
“I never planned to join the MKP, I never worked with anyone in the MKP regarding some conspiracy about my departure. The information they had was based largely on lies.”
However, he admitted to knowing about Shivambu’s exit and encouraging him to be transparent with EFF leadership. He rejected the idea that he should have reported Shivambu’s plans, saying:
“The idea that I should have run behind his back and informed other people suggests that I’m an informant or a wedge driver—I am none of those.”

With his political career behind him, Ndlozi has announced plans to pursue academic research, advocacy, and community development.
“Party politics do not have a monopoly on contributing to social change, and I have chosen to step away,” he said, emphasizing his commitment to social justice beyond the political sphere.
Ndlozi’s resignation marks a significant shift in South Africa’s political landscape, leaving questions about the future of the EFF and the growing influence of the MK Party.
