A Hard-Fought Victory Mthethwa’s struggle with MiWay began in 2016 when the insurance company declined his claim. After a prolonged legal battle, he secured a court victory in 2024. However, the fight didn’t end there.
The singer took to Instagram to express his frustration, revealing that MiWay’s legal department had ignored his emails since November 2024, delaying the payout he had legally won.
Khaya Mthethwa Calls Out MiWay In a now-viral Instagram story, Mthethwa publicly questioned MiWay’s handling of his case:
“MiWay Insurance, I’d like to know why our emails since Nov 2024 have been ignored by your legal department. My claim was declined in 2016, and I finally got my day in court with you guys last year in Feb—and we won the case! Now it’s a mission to get you guys to settle this claim, and I’m sick and tired of chasing. I hope I’m the only person getting this kind of treatment.”
His post resonated with many South Africans who shared similar grievances about delayed insurance payouts and poor customer service.
MiWay Responds and Reaches a Settlement After nearly nine years of back-and-forth, Mthethwa announced that he and MiWay had finally reached a settlement.
“We signed a settlement yesterday, and they are processing the claim as we speak. I am sure by the end of the week, it’s going to be done. I just wanted to say thank you for helping me spread the word and sharing your personal stories. This is the power of social media. You guys helped me fight the fight.”
The case highlights the importance of perseverance and the impact of social media in holding companies accountable. While MiWay has not publicly commented on the specifics of the settlement, Mthethwa’s long struggle underscores the challenges policyholders often face in receiving their rightful payouts.
