Groblersdal, Limpopo — Groblersdal Mall is undergoing a bold transformation that will reshape the shopping experience in Limpopo. Spearheaded by Twin City in partnership with Patricio & Sons, the Relaunch Project, which began in February 2025, is scheduled for completion by November 2025 and promises a vibrant, modern retail destination that reflects local culture and growing consumer expectations.
The 37,000-square-metre mall is being refreshed with a new brand identity, revitalised tenant mix, a fully redesigned food court, and customer-focused upgrades throughout the centre. This development is also expected to boost employment in the area by creating new permanent jobs on top of the 1,000+ already supported.
“Our vision is to ensure the centre evolves with the people it serves,” says Ryno de Leeuw, CEO of Twin City.
“We’re blending contemporary design with local relevance to offer a space that shoppers can feel proud of.”
Design Rooted in Local Identity
Design Partnership leads the architectural and brand refresh, drawing inspiration from Groblersdal’s agricultural landscape. Warm tones, natural textures, lush greenery, and tactile finishes create a sense of place and belonging for shoppers.
The new brand identity, “Rooted in Groblersdal, Growing Together,” connects the community with the mall’s modern yet friendly and grounded vibe, giving locals a refreshed centre that celebrates who they are.
Upgraded Anchors and Exciting Additions
A major component of the revamp is the revitalised anchor tenant mix:
- Checkers joins as a new grocery anchor.
- Woolworths expands to include a Woolworths Food store.
- Dis-Chem enlarges its footprint to meet growing demand.
- Spar remains a key staple in the retail mix.
The food court will be transformed into a central hospitality hub with a family-friendly design, water features, casual pause areas, and an engaging play zone for children.
Standalone food retailers will complement the mix, positioning the mall as a third space—not just for shopping, but for family time, relaxation, and social connection.
Modern Comforts and Green Innovation
Key upgrades include:
- New public restrooms
- Seamless landscaping and spatial flow
- Free WiFi
- Solar-powered energy systems
All retailers will remain open throughout construction, with efforts in place to minimise disruption to shoppers.
Community Commitment: Little Warriors Preschool
Adjacent to the mall is Little Warriors Preschool, a Twin City Foundation initiative that reflects the group’s commitment to community development. Opened in 2019, the school:
- Supports over 200 children (ages 6 months to 6 years)
- Employs 13 educators and staff
- Operates across eight classrooms
“We believe real change lies in nurturing future generations,” said de Leeuw.
A Space to Gather and Grow
“Groblersdal Mall is no longer just a shopping destination,” says de Leeuw.
“It’s a vibrant, people-first community space where values, lifestyle, and commerce meet.”
With a balanced blend of local flavour and national retail strength, the new Groblersdal Mall is poised to become the beating heart of Limpopo retail, drawing both loyal customers and new visitors with its fresh, elevated offering.
The full redevelopment is expected to be completed by November 2025.
