Blackstreet to Serenade South Africa with Nostalgic R&B Tour
Great R&B music never dies, and 2024 is proving to be another year packed with unforgettable performances from some of the biggest names in the industry. South African music lovers have been treated to a string of memorable concerts, and the good times are set to continue with the arrival of Grammy-winning R&B legends, Blackstreet.
The iconic group, known for their timeless hit “No Diggity,” will be gracing South African stages for the first time as part of their “Magic Music Sessions” tour in October. This tour marks a special moment for R&B enthusiasts in Mzansi, as Blackstreet brings their legendary sound to life in an experience sure to evoke nostalgia and excitement.
Blackstreet, a group that rose to prominence in the ’90s, was co-founded by the trailblazing musician Teddy Riley, who is credited with pioneering the new jack swing style of music. Alongside Chauncey Hannibal, the group became a force to be reckoned with in the R&B world, delivering a series of platinum-selling hits and critically acclaimed albums.
Their influence extended beyond their own discography, with collaborations with major artists like Dr. Dre, Queen Pen, Mya, and Foxy Brown further cementing their place in music history. Despite a decline in commercial success in recent years, Blackstreet’s legacy remains strong, with their music continuing to inspire and move fans worldwide.
South Africa will get a chance to witness this legacy firsthand as Blackstreet kicks off their tour on Friday, October 25, at the Sun City Superbowl. The tour will continue on Saturday, October 26, at the SunBet Arena in Pretoria, and will conclude on Sunday, October 27, at the Grand Arena, GrandWest in Cape Town.
Thato Segaole, executive director of Vertex Events, expressed excitement about hosting such iconic performers: “We are proudly bringing yet another amazing performing act for South Africans to enjoy. We have always set an impeccable tone and standard with our productions, and this tour will be no different. The team is eager and ready to execute unforgettable shows at all mentioned venues.”
The “Magic Music Sessions” tour is set to be a highlight of the year, offering South African R&B fans a rare opportunity to celebrate the music of a group that helped shape the genre. With tickets priced from R650, fans can purchase theirs via Webtickets or at Pick n Pay stores across the country. Don’t miss out on what promises to be a soulful, nostalgic experience with one of the most beloved R&B groups of all time.
